Computer Technical Conference 2004
JAARS bi-annual computing conference and training sessions. This past month was my second conference. About 60 co-workers from around the world joined our staff at JAARS for two weeks of training sessions. (see typical classes below). Also, about 300 computing personnel from around the world joined us at JAARS for the actual conference the week prior to Thanksgiving. There were 64 presentations during the week covering issues of interest in Information Technology. Several evenings were dedicated to a 'Linux install-fest' where we could take a look at installing various 'flavors' of the Linux operating system. About forty people participated each evening. I presented one session during the conference concerning spam and virus filtering for our organizations. There were many expressions of appreciation for the spam filtering that we do here at JAARS. During the conference it was announced that over the past year JAARS has received 91 new members into IT positions (worldwide). This include us! Four attendees at the conference were able to participate because of scholarships provided by donations from our local JAARS staff. Three came from Asia and one from Africa. It was encouraging to be able to provide this opportunity for these folks that would otherwise not have been able to attend.
