Our latest Prayer Card picture...

Walkinshaws E-Mail Update - 4 March 2008

I'm going to start with the most recent news and prayer requests, and move my way back...

Tomorrow (Wed. Mar. 5), Sean is scheduled for a root canal at the dentist. So we would really appreciate your prayers about that.

Last Thursday was one of those days when it's hard not to go by our emotions. It was a bummer and it was not easy to look on the bright side.
Sean was playing street hockey last Wednesday night with some of his neighborhood buddies in our drive way out back. He caught a high stick in the wrong place.
We've seen a couple dentists, and it looks like our cost after insurance for the root canal, post & core, crown, and bonding will be around $900.
Sean lost his right front tooth, and his left front is chipped. The difficulty is that there's not much root left to be able to build on for his right tooth.

Please keep praying for wisdom and that Sean will get good care. Getting this fixed looks like it will take a couple of weeks.

Kind of ironic that I lost my right front tooth at a young age too. I explained to Sean that for me in my life, I've recognized my lost tooth as something God allowed to humble me and be medecine to deal with my pride, and to cause me to get my eyes off myself and to rely on His grace that is sufficient. I told him about Paul's story in 2 Corinthians, and how the universal truth there applies to us as well, and that these situations bring us to a crossroads in life where we're faced with a decision either to choose or not to choose His grace. Pray that Sean (and all of us) will learn what the Lord is teaching us through this.

Other news of the past couple months...
** Danae is doing great in her Junior year at Duncanville High School. She's getting all A's and B's and one C. She's almost finished with Driver's Ed, and she really enjoys playing on the JV Girls High School Soccer Team. (She plays forward and midfield and has scored several goals. The team is very good!)
** Nadia is doing really good too in her Freshman year at Duncanville High School. She's getting all A's and B's! She got a Chow-Retriever mix puppy for her birthday in December. His name is Shasta, and he's been keeping her pretty busy outside of school.
** Sean seems to think school is something to just try to survive, and would rather forget his homework, and go play with his buddies. So for the moment, we just won't talk about his average grades in 5th Grade at ChristWay Academy. We hope for much improvement before school is out, especially now that soccer season and basketball season are over (he played for his school team in both of those sports).
** Tena has been very busy taking care of business at home, and being a taxi for all the kid's activities. She has also been doing some substitute teaching to help out a little with what's lacking in our monthly support needs.
** I have been really enjoying working in recruitment and training for Wycliffe. There is such a huge need for more workers with all sorts of expertise all over the world. It's very rewarding being instrumental in seeing more workers go out. I went to Orlando to attend two training seminars in December, and also to teach in a TOTAL It Up in January. In February, I went to Kansas City twice to speak in supporting churches, and to visit and share reports with other partners. I'm very excited to report that currently as a result of my recruitment activities, I have 5 people in the application process to begin service with Wycliffe. I am now working with around 40 contacts, from all over the Midwest and South Central areas of the US.

Along with our work activities with Wycliffe here in Dallas, we really need to focus on developing our Partnership Team. It's a great blessing to report first hand what God is doing through us and through Wycliffe. We want our partners to experience this blessing too, and see how God is using them! I LOVE getting invitations to come share, and am also known to invite myself too (so BEWARE!). We would really appreciate your prayers for us for our reporting ministry, and know that our calendar is open to scheduling invitations!!!

We're so thankful for the new friends God has lead to join our Partnership Team, and also for the current Partners that have been lead to increase their monthly commitments. We've still been well under 100% for several months now, so we've sensed that it's not yet God's timing for me to begin working on my Masters program in Language Development (for more info about that see... http://www.gial.edu/dpt-langdev/ma-ld-su.htm). Removing that expense from our monthly needs for now puts us at around 90%. Being short over $500 a month for several months is helping us to see the importance of working at Partnership Development, and also of evaluating where we can cut back. For example, we'll probably begin sending Sean to a public school next year. We really appreciate your prayers that we will be sensitive to God's leading, that we will keep trusting in His provision, and that God will use us to be instrumental to get others involved in this Bible Translation Movement in a variety of ways, through Recruitment and our own Partnership Development!

because hearing His voice gives me life, (John 5:25)

Pat, for Tena, and Danae, Nadia, and Sean
