Welcome to the Satres' Website
Hi! Thanks for checking out our website! Above is a photo of Bernard, a member of the Scripture Engagement team for the Ngomba project. He is inviting people to come see the 'Jesus' film in Ngomba. The impact of the 'Jesus' film is one of our ongoing joys and prayer concerns. You can read about Scott's visit to a showing of the film in our November 2010 newsletter. This aspect of the ministry is ongoing - seven showings were scheduled for the month of July 2011. Mandy spent the Spring semester 0f 2011 at Rain Forest International School in Cameroon and we welcomed her back to us in Dallas, TX on June 13th. Her trip included one cancelled flight (didn't leave Yaounde until the next night), a 4 hour delay in Iceland for the deplaning of a passenger with a medical emergency and an overnight in a fancy hotel in Chicago! We had planned to join her there in April, but our plans changed and you can read about that in our May 2011 newsletter. Check out the links on the left and below to see additional information on who we are and what the Lord's been doing in our lives. We are now on extended furlough in the US in a season of dealing with some family issues. Scott's linguistic article on 'The Consecutive Morpheme in Bamileke-Ngomba' is soon to come out in the journal 'Studies in African Linguistics' - a longer version of what he presented at Annual Conference on African Linguistics (#41) in Toronto May 2010. He is also in contact with the man working on the dictionary database in Cameroon and has been working on the first 4 volumes of the reading & writing manuals in Ngomba. He is updating the fonts so they are 'unicode compliant', as they say, and putting it into a different program. WHAT'S THE LASTEST ON THIS SITE? Our March 2011 and May 2011 newsletters are available for downloading. The latter as of May 10, 2011. The article on our plans for this coming term was also updated on that date. Updated the above section on July 6, 2011.

Soul Food People are truly hungry for God’s Word in their mother tongue. At the dedication of a New Testament, an African church leader prayed, “These Holy Scriptures are food for our souls and water for our spiritual life. What we have dreamed about in the past has today become a reality—your living Word in our language.”

Our Money Matters
We raised the necessary support and travel funds to return to Cameroon. But we have been delayed again and lost a good bit of the travel funds to cancelation fees. We also lost money on the apartment we had already rented in Yaounde - see our May 2011 newsletter for more details. Had to replace our catalytic converter to pass vehicle inspection in April and before the end of the year will need major brake and possibly transmission work done on the car. Feels like what they call 'piling on' in football, only in the area of finances. The most recent delay came with large medical expenses and we rejoice at how God has been providing for those through not only our insurance coverage but also our local church, our partners and others. We have yet to set a date, but are hoping to have dealt with our family issues sufficiently by January 2012 to be able to return to Cameroon then. ABOUT LIVING "BY FAITH". Our income fluctuates considerably from month to month, as our partners send in their contributions at varying intervals – some monthly, some bi-monthly, some quarterly and some once a year. This is OK as long as it averages out to what our support quota indicates we need. Unexpected large expenses, like a vehicle repair, can cause us difficulty, just as it might you, but we still trust the Lord to provide. WHEN AND HOW WE RECEIVE OUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT. What you give to Wycliffe designated "for the Satres" in one month is processed at Orlando (deductions are made for taxes, health insurance, retirement, etc.,) and then what remains after deductions is direct-deposited into our bank and branch accounts around the 5th of the following month. For example, what people gave to Wycliffe for us during the entire month of July 2009 was processed and then deposited in our credit union account and some in our Cameroon SIL branch account on August 6th, 2009.
