Overview
Our Wycliffe president, Bob Creson, asked me (Joe) to represent Wycliffe USA at a series of meetings being held in Yaounde, Cameroon (West Africa). The meetings were being organized by our Central Africa Group but they had to be held in Cameroon because of instability in the Central Africa countries--Central Africa Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasha), Congo (Brazzaville), Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea. Over the past couple of years, the Wycliffe organizations and our partner SIL have had to withdraw our personnel from the field as civil wars broke out in some of those countries. The teams are continuing to try to carry on their work from Cameroon. A two day meeting was scheduled with church leaders from those countries invited to come and discuss how Bible translation work can be carried on in those countries and how the churches might participate in the translation work. Another day was scheduled with the Regional Directors of Bible translation agencies in those countries. A final day was scheduled for strategic planning with the Central Africa Group. Since I was there in Cameroon representing Wycliffe USA, we scheduled a "town meeting" of all available Wycliffe USA members to listen to their concerns and to talk about what is happening "back home". I also had the opportunity to meet with the leadership of the Cameroon branch. Other pages will go into further detail of the above activities.
