Cameroon--Kom New Testament Dedication
Joe and Jerry were asked to represent Wycliffe USA at the dedication of the Kom (pronounced like comb) New Testament in the Northwest Province of Cameroon (central Africa, map here: http://worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/africa/cm.htm). From Snyder's November 2005 Monthly Report We have been doing some research on the Kom project--reading through the prayer letters of the translators involved, reading the project funding reports, and asking others about their experiences. The following is from a recent newsletter of a couple working in Cameroon who has a Kom friend. Bible study: Meg participates in a women's Bible study with some other missionary women and some Cameroonian women. They've studied Joshua, Judges, and are now studying Ruth. Margaret attended faithfully each week. She didn't say much but enjoyed studying the Word with the other women. But all that changed when they began studying Ruth. She began to ask questions and give insights like never before. After the study one of the women complimented her on her insight and contribution. Margaret smiled, and asked if she wanted to know why. With a smile, she pulled a copy of Ruth in Kom from her purse. Margaret has been learning to read Kom, her mother tongue, in anticipation of the dedication of the New Testament in Kom next month. The story of Ruth is the only Old Testament Scripture published in Kom so far. Margaret reads English. She always thought she understood the Bible and preaching so well. But now, after reading God's word in her own language and experiencing the change in her level of understanding, she realized that she never really understood the depth of the word of God before. Pray for others like Margaret who need to realize how much more of God's word could be available to them.
