The first photo is of several kookaburra birds out front of the place where we were staying. To hear what just one of these sounds like click on the following link: http://www.hotkey.net.au/~perrelink/kookaburra.aif

We visited the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. We saw quite a few of all different sizes and ages and genders. Most of them were asleep but this one woke up long enough for us to get a picture.

This is more typical of the Koala. They spend their days wedged into the fork of a tree sleeping. They almost never go down to the ground. They don't really "drink" water but get all of their moisture from the eucalyptus leaves that make up about 80% of their diet.

Brisbane was full of beautiful flowers, tree, and plants. Even though it was late fall there, we saw many like this.

I thought this church downtown was a great contrast. The church is still an active Anglican church.

Here are some additional flowers we came across.

We spent Saturday morning in the South Bank area of Brisbane. There was something like a world's fair here back in the early 80's. It has now been renovated into a beautiful park with vendors, restaurants, shops, and walkways like this. Many trendy restaurants have sprung up in the area surrounding South Bank. And, as it implies, it is right on the Brisbane River where you can catch a water taxi to travel up or down river.
