Some practical ways to better support MKs 1. PRAY for MKs, specifically and often 2. Encourage missionary families to rest during furlough and not be overwhelmed with visiting supporting churches and reporting. 3. Encourage/Pay for missionaries to attend a re-entry program designed to help them repatriate and transition more smoothly. 4. Encourage missionary parents to have appropriate priorities and not put ministry above family wellbeing. 5. Connect missionary families with a family from the congregation that has similar family makeup. 6. Have youth group stay connected/in contact with MKs. 7. Send MKs and their family church bulletins, church service tapes, local newspaper articles. Especially when they are about to go on furlough. 8. Connect MKs with a mature re-entry friend, someone with good listening skills and an eagerness to learn about their experiences. 9. Send your youth group out to visit them so they can understand what life is like for an MK. 10. Consider funding an “MK makeover” with appropriate clothing. 11. Educate youth groups and leaders on how to make an MK feel welcome 12. Allow MKs to tell their story. 13. Send MKs notes, gifts, emails. 14. Offer frequent flyer miles to MKs so they can visit friends, attend graduations, and have closure. 15. Offer to pay for counseling or MK camps if needed. 16. Generously support a few missionaries instead of moderately supporting numerous missionaries. (Makes furlough visits to the supporting churches less numerous for missionary families.)
