ITConnect Burkina Faso

In March and April information technology conferences were held in Cameroon and Burkina Faso, West Africa. This is the first time we have held IT conferences in West Africa. Fifteen participants from 10 countries arrived by bus, truck, and air to the capitol city of   Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The conference enables them to better support computer systems for the ongoing Bible translation task. All the sessions were conducted in French. My job was to organize the conference, while others, who were fluent in French, taught. Many of the attendees were meeting for the first time, but they quickly became part of the team. We had a great two weeks together.

Just prior to the Burkina conference, IT Connect was conducted in Cameroon in English. I experienced a one-week travel delay related to a visa. The consequence of this was not too severe since two instructors were prepared to teach during this first week. I was able to teach in the second week, arriving just in time! Thanks everyone for your prayers.

Central Africa Trip Aug 2009

Recently I returned from a ministry trip to Brazzaville, Congo and in Bangui, Central Africa Republic. The purpose of the trip was to review the information technology situation with Bible translation colleagues. This is part of our effort to grow our capability to serve the broader translation movement.

You prayed and the LORD answered. The flights and connections were made. I had some wonderful times connecting with colleagues, going over the issues that they face. We made plans to expand the infrastructure needed for their future program. It was a fruitful time. Thanks also for your prayers for Dorie during my absence.

Thaliane and his daughter Thaliana live in Brazzaville. He is involved in supporting information technology. Thaliane has visited our home in North Carolina.

Everyone Needs the Bible

Today there are about 1,600 language translation projects around the world. There are people in these languages that will have the opportunity to truly understand the Bible clearly once their translation is available. There are more than 2,700 languages that are waiting for a project team to start...more
