September 2010 Updates

We are grateful to announce that our son, Kyle and his wife Nicolette, are now parents.  Their son Nolan David was born on June 15.  Also Aaron, and his wife Karen, have a new baby boy born March 13, Wesley Aaron Mayes!  Pray also for Wesley's older brother Grant.

My mother, Grace (92), has undergone a successful surgery to repair her back. She has made a transition to assisted living in Virginia Beach, near my sister, Carol. She is still doing well. PTL!

Thank you for praying for the Africa IT Connect Conferernce held at Ruiru Kenya June 7-18.  Students from Mozambique, DR Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, and  Kenya focused on issues related to IT Consulting, System Administration, and IT Leadership.  Students drank from  the fire hose so to speak as we covered a wide range of  topics.  All logistics and training came together well.  We now  will make adjustments in order to have a set of  courses ready for Cameroon and Burkina Faso next March.  We are grateful to sponsors, instructors, and those who addressed logistics needs of the conference.

Also I visited our Nampula  Mozambique center June 20-26 and learned a lot about Bible translation.

Some prayer items:

  • Ask for beneficial leadership meetings in Nairobi Kenya (Sep 3-12), Dar es Salaam and Musoma, Tanzania (Sep 13-19).

  • Ask God to guide the Africa IT Discovery Team (Jan 28-31, 2011) in establishing IT Connect Training Conferences at three African venues. Yaounde Cameroon (March 14-25, 2011), Burkina Faso (March 28-April 8, 2011), and Kenya (June 6-17, 2011).

  • Sensitivity to hear and follow God in every area of our lives.

Also thank God for 2009 Trips:

  • Cameroon, Chad, and Kenya in March
  • Brazzaville Congo and Bangui Central Africa Republic in August and September.
  • Ethiopia in September
  • Kenya in December

Thank God for successful installation of VSAT Internet in Central Africa Republic in March 2010.

Dorie is doing well in her assignment with Wycliffe Bible Translators as a personnel administrator. Pray for her role working with Wycliffe members coming and going from the US to various assignments world-wide.

Working for SIL Africa Area out of JAARS (Waxhaw, NC) has continued to work out very well for Bill.  Many projects have required expert involvement of engineers at JAARS. The internet upgrade project has been getting implemented well across the area.  Several projects across Africa are under development now to install improvements to power infrastructure and internet improvements.  Please pray for wisdom in technical decision making and implementation.
