Christy, What do you do?
What do I do? That, my friend, is a fantastic question! This is a time of transition for me, and the activities that adorn my days are always a surprise! After spending the summer in training both in Alabama and Florida, I headed up to New Jersey and New York to visit family, share in churches, and reconnect with dear friends! I returned home on Monday, the 16th of October, to celebrate my beautiful sister, Leah's, birthday, and plan her party of course. (I thoroughly enjoy planning parties!) On Friday my sister, Sarah, had a new baby girl, Remi Grace. This was another reason for celebration, as is every morning, but this was a unique and unusual one...six weeks early! That evening I went out with my nieces, nephew, and Leah dressed in our formal attire. We found ourselves at McDonalds where we danced and ate ice cream in honor of Remi! It was her first birthday party. I have signed up to substitute teach because...once a teacher, always a teacher, and I am desperately missing the classroom. I enjoy the challenge, but more importantly, I truly enjoy the lessons I learn from the children I meet.
What will I do in Cameroon? I will be teaching missionary children grades k-6th in all subjects. I will spend 2-3 weeks with each family, where the children are homeschooled by their mother in remote villages where they are translating the Bible. My primary responsibility will be teaching, but I've heard that mentoring, encouraging, playing, and loving are all part of the job description. I will be supporting Bible translation through doing something that God has gifted me in, and allowing mothers to partake in the other aspects of ministry in the village. This thrills me! The opportunity to have a part in giving people a reason to rejoice, dance, sing, and praise God!
I have recently been sharing in churches, small groups, Christian Schools, and with my friends of what God is doing...what an honor.
What am I doing? I am enjoying seeing God's faithfulness as I prepare for my work in Cameroon.
