We LOVE it here!

The traffic throughout Cameroon usually is extremely crazy. Many cars will drive with craters on their windshields or with a piece of cardboard or plastic in place of their window. Sometimes we think the laws of physics are not fully understood because we see people who drive as if everyone else will get out of their way. Since it is impossible to react too quickly without threatening someone else on the side of the road, many accidents take place. Of course there are other reasons accidents happen but still, God is our protector wherever we go.

Even though we are threatened by malaria, amoeba, Dengue fever, poisonous reptiles, microscopic worms, and other germs we LOVE it here. One of the things we thoroughly enjoy is the exotic drinks.

Meeting you!

I have been meeting many new friends these days who have been encouraging me. Many of them are kids like you. I hope that if we have not met yet, we will soon!

British Wit in Writing

This was an assignment I gave to Rachel (one of my students). She had to write a journal entry from Lord Bracknell of "The Importance of Being Ernest"

15, November 1987

Dear Diary,

My Wife!!!!! She is a holy terror!!! Last night I had to dine upstairs because our grumwizzile of a nephew couldn’t come to the party so her blasted table was put “out”. For Pete’s sake!! She acts as if I wasn’t old enough to make my own decisions. She forgets, I think, that she only has heaps of money because she married me. I’ll never forgive myself!

A New World of Translation
This "Newsletter" was written by 2 of my students. They have created a new people group, language, and situations to accompany the development of a Bible project in this imaginary language group. It is very creative! Check it out!

Soccer and Swimmin'!

This is a letter I received from a group of writing students in Cameroon! The picture to the right is not them, but I thought it looked like fun, so I decided to show it to you! What a great soccer practice! Here we have four seasons, but in Cameroon, there are only two seasons, the rainy season and the dry season. So, when it rains...it rains (so I've heard)! The more rain, the better puddles to splash in!

Dear Christy Watkin,

We are a class of 7 writing students that belong to a Homeschooling program (FES) consisting of at least 7 nationalities. Within our small class our parents fulfill 4 distinct roles (pilot, linguist, teacher, language surveyor) to help the people of Cameroon.

On Monday we had soccer practice and just before the game time, it started raining. It poured for about 20 minutes. When the downpour stopped, we discovered a 35-foot long, 12-inch-deep, natural dirty swimming pool. A child's paradise! Some of us ran and did cannon balls into the water. Our white shirts were muddy, our hair was full of bits of mud and grass. Our coach suggested getting out because of water snakes, but we didn't find any.
