What We Are Doing
Since the adoption of Vision 2025 in 1999 the pace of Bible Translation has increased tremendously and the number of people needed to be part of the work has grown too. In Papua New Guinea, where we are serving, there are over 800 language groups and over 600 without scripture. Currently there are 186 translation projects underway in PNG. It is these translation teams that we will be going to support. Jim is working as the director of aviation SIL PNG. One of the reasons that there are so many languages in a land about the size of California is the way the mountains and jungles separate the people groups from each other. Helicopters and planes provide access to tribes that it might otherwise take weeks to reach by canoe and on foot. Michele is teachering math at Ukarumpa International School Secondary Campus. God is sending translators from many lands to PNG. Teachers free the translators to focus on their work knowing that the educational needs of their children are met. Currently there is a shortage of teachers and translators have been pulled out of field work to teach. Michele is also working part time in the PNG Projects office. She help keep track of the many international projects that support the work in PNG.
