"Lord, I can't do this anymore."
One month before I was to begin linguistic training with Wycliffe Bible Translators, a big truck hit my car on the passenger side as I approached a traffic light. My car was totaled, my five-year employment was only weeks away from terminating; I had given away everything that wouldn’t fit in my car; and I was now uncertain how I would make the move to the International Linguistics Center in Dallas, TX. Not only that, but I received a letter from the graduate school stating I must pay for all my school fees up front. Payment plans were not available, and credit cards were not accepted. How would I pay for school? I still needed $4,000 with less than a month to get it. I’d already visited & spoken to several churches. I’d done everything a good missionary is supposed to do, right? What would I do now? I was at the end of myself, of what I could do. I told the Lord, “I can’t do this anymore. If you want me to go, I will look to You to get me there.” Later that night I received an email from an elder of a small church in Madisonville, TN. The email had been sent about the same time I was praying. He wrote telling me that the church had just sent in a special gift of $2,000 to cover my expenses for school. Wow. Knowing nothing about my car wreck, he also wrote that I may face trials in the days ahead. Some trials will be from the Lord to strengthen me; others will be the attempts of the evil one to stop God’s Word from going out. I will need wisdom to tell the difference. The next day I received an email from the graduate school, notifying me of a $2,000 scholarship. Double wow. $4,000 in 2 days. Only GOD can do that. August 19, 2005
