Lubwisi NT Translation Project
Participate: Learn More, Pray, Invest

Project Summary

The Babwisi people live on the western slopes and plains of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains. They have traditionally lived as subsistence farmers, but some grow cash crops like cocoa, coffee and rice. Years of fighting between rebel and government soldiers have taken their toll on the Babwisi, as have famine, poverty and diseases like HIV/AIDS.

Despite these hardships, two educated Babwisi men are working to translate the Scriptures into their language, Lubwisi. Beginning in January 2006, the Lubwisi translation team will work with a team from the Lugungu language to translate the rest of the New Testament.

Lugungu NT Translation Project
Participate: Learn More, Pray, Invest

Project Summary

The Bagungu people call their language Lugungu. They live in western Uganda, just south of where the Nile River flows into the Lake Albert. The Anglican and Catholic churches have been present among the Bagungu for decades, but only a few of the people are active, practicing Christians today. The rest of the population continues to practice traditional animistic religion, often mixing certain Christian beliefs with their animism.

The Bagungu translation team is currently drafting portions of the Old and New Testaments into Lugungu, and they are working on the JESUS film. When the Bagungu people have the Scriptures in a language they truly understand, they will have the opportunity to develop deeper, more personal relationships with God. The JESUS film will serve as a powerful evangelistic tool to touch many Bagungu lives with the Gospel message.
