"When I am gone, say nothing about Dr. Carey; speak about Dr. Carey's Saviour."
William Carey (1761-1834), known as the "Father and Founder of Modern Missions," was the first missionary to India sent out by the Baptist Missionary Society. On his deathbed he said to Alexander Duff:
"Some day you will read in the papers that D.L. Moody of East Northfield, is dead. Don't you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now; I shall have gone up higher, that is all, out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal- a body that death cannot touch, that sin cannot taint; a body fashioned like unto His glorious body.
I was born of the flesh in 1837. I was born of the Spirit in 1856. That which is born of the flesh may die. That which is born of the Spirit will live forever. "
George Müller 1805-1898 English evangelist and philanthropist
"A servant of God has but one Master.
It ill becomes the servant to seek to be rich, and great, and honoured in that world where his Lord was poor, and mean, and despised."
Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892 English preacher, author and editor
"I had rather be poor in His service than rich in my own.
If you think you can walk in holiness without keeping up perpetual fellowship with Christ, you have made a great mistake. If you would be holy, you must live close to Jesus."
Hudson Taylor 1832-1905 English missionary to China
“Let us in everything not sinful become Chinese, that we may by all means “save some”.
Let us adopt their dress, acquire their language, seek to conform to their habits, approximate their diet as far as health and constitution allow.”
"Christ is either Lord of all, or He is not Lord at all.
We are not only to renounce evil, but to manifest the truth. We tell people the world is vain; let our lives manifest that it is so. We tell them that our home is above and that all these things are transitory. Does our dwelling look like it? O to live consistent lives!"
“Missions exists because worship doesn't.... When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more.... But worship abides forever.”John Piper
"The qualification for receiving His Kingdom is not strength but thirst."
- John Piper

On his deathbed General William Booth made his last request of his son, Bramwell: "I have been thinking very much during the last few nights about China. I greatly regret that the Lord has not permitted me to raise our flag amongst that wonderful people. Promise me that you will begin the work in China." Then father and son clasped hands and prayed together. This was 1912.....from Check Hung Yee's book, "Good Morning China" and cited on page 2 William Booth, Founder & General of The Salvation Army
William Booth was born in Nottingham in 1829. At the age of 13 he was sent to work as an apprentice in a pawnbroker's shop to help support his mother and sisters. He did not enjoy his job but it made him only too aware of the poverty in which people lived and how they suffered humiliation and degradation because of it. During his teenage years he became a Christian and spent much of his spare time trying to persuade other people to become Christians too.
Polycarp suffered much for Christ's sake as Euseius, the church historian, tells us. The Roman Proconsul commanded him to swear allegiance to Caesar, saying, "Swear, and I will set thee at liberty; reproach Christ." How courageous and magnificent was Polycarp's reply!
